The Railway Terrace is part of Malmö’s transformation of Nyhamnen, creating a new public connection between the emerging waterfront district and the historic city centre. Positioned above the railway yard beside the Central Station, the elevated promenade offers views, sunlight, and direct links to the city via a future bicycle bridge, turning a route through the city into a destination in its own right.

Mandaworks developed the landscape and public space design for a series of distinct places along the terrace. Guided by the concept of the Seven Pearls, each space responds to its surroundings while creating opportunities to pause, meet, and experience the city from a new perspective.

Particular focus was placed on the public realm surrounding the new courthouse. A welcoming and accessible entrance integrates planting, seating, lighting, and bicycle parking within a unified landscape design. Perforated corten steel screens define the character of the project, filtering light and framing views toward the city. Multifunctional green infrastructure supports biodiversity and stormwater management within a constrained urban setting, while clear sightlines and thoughtful lighting create a safe, comfortable, and inviting environment for everyday use.
