Hermods Plats
Design for a central square in the growing housing area of Klagshamn. The design language is derived from the place’s history and its connection to the flintstone, that can be found in area. The square’s soft shapes and height differences create a quiet and safe surface, despite surrounding traffic.

Project Description:
Hermods Plats is a neighborhood square in the village of Klagshamn, just south of Malmö. The design reflects how people move through the area, the site’s natural history, and the surrounding buildings. Inspired by the rough, broken forms of flintstone found nearby, the square connects both sides of a road, creating a unified place where people walk, meet, and spend time.
The square consists of smaller zones, or "fragments", that link the older village to a newer residential area. Each fragment features curved concrete edges that define the space. Some edges are flat and lie at ground level to guide natural walking paths. Others are thicker and raised, creating seating areas, green spaces, and a pétanque court.
Each zone uses different paving materials and planting styles, giving the square a strong visual identity. At the same time, the layout remains flexible and adapts to future needs.
