Project description:
The project reimagines Märsta Centrum as a safer, more welcoming and vibrant public space in the heart of Sigtuna. At the core lies the idea of creating a sense of “home” in the urban environment — where entrances act as inviting hallways and the central square becomes a shared living room. This approach strengthens emotional connection and encourages residents to see the centre as theirs: a place worth visiting, caring for and returning to.
Through a structured design process involving site studies, dialogue, analysis and concept development, the project identifies the centre’s challenges and opportunities and translates them into clear, targeted strategies. Enhancing entrances with light and colour improves orientation and safety, while seasonal installations on the square spark curiosity and invite exploration. Together, these interventions build a coherent identity and contribute to a more engaging, accessible and community-owned urban space.
