Located just south of Uppsala’s city centre, Ulleråker is one of the city’s largest and most ambitious urban development projects. The area is being transformed into a sustainable neighbourhood with around 7,000 new homes, supported by high-quality public services and infrastructure. The development prioritizes climate-smart solutions, including green mobility (such as cycling, walking, and public transportation), well-connected public spaces, and environmentally sensitive water management. One of its key goals is to integrate nature into the urban fabric, protecting critical groundwater recharge zones and managing stormwater through green spaces, such as parks and streetscapes. Situated between two major universities and surrounded by scenic landscapes, Ulleråker is ideally positioned to become a vibrant, innovative community. The planning process utilizes tools, such as 3D models and immersive digital media, to engage the public and support a flexible, long-term vision.
A 100-hectare transformation south of Uppsala aims to create a vibrant, climate-smart neighbourhood integrating nature, sustainable mobility, and water-sensitive design through a landscape-led and community-oriented approach.
